Texas Pirate Adventures announced launch for Black Dragon Pirate Theme Ship
Port Isabel — Texas Pirate Adventures General Manager Captain Phil Calo has announced the Pirate vessel Black Dragon is scheduled for launch on April 20.
Currently under construction at the Duckworth Shipyard, Tarpon Springs, Fl, the Black Dragon measures 75 feet in length with a 20-foot beam.
The ship will weigh 80 gross tons and the tallest of her four masts extends 57 feet above the waterline. The Black Dragon is a replica of the Old Spanish galleons and treasure ships.
Daniel J. Avoures & Assoc., based in Tampa, designed the ship.
Chosen as the designers of this vessel because of their 35 plus years of experience designing theme based passenger vessels, Avoures’ list of clients include Disney World, Universal Studios, Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise lines.
The Black Dragon is expected to have U.S. Coast Guard certification for 120 passengers plus captain and crew.
“We will offer 3 or 4 two hour cruises on the Laguna Madre daily, each with a separate and distinct pirate theme,” According Captain Calo. “We will also charter special events such as weddings, anniversaries and company promotions.”
Black Dragon will be berthed at Pirates Landing, Port Isabel. For further information contact Captain Phil Calo at 956-943-6283.

I love it! I remember they had a pirate ship like this in Cancun, and it was a very popular attraction. It was a good way to spend the evening, with dinner and drinks. Or you can do a short day cruise with the kids. Lots of fun. I look forward to our first trip!
Great info, thanks for posting it. |
